Doesn't work with iPhone 4S, but Great for 1st Gen iPhone 4Oct 14, 2011
By Kip Lewis This case does not work with the iPhone 4S. The mute button is shifted down, and the volume buttons slightly up on the iPhone 4S. I hope they come out with one that works with the new iPhone, because it works great on my old iPhone 4.

Construction quality is on par for its price.Oct 19, 2011
By Macblair This bumper was purchased to replace an original 1st party apple bumper and for all intents and purposes is effectively the same bumper.
The materials seem to be the same between this and the 1st party bumpers. The issue comes in that the bumper is poorly constructed.
The edges are not quite as seamless as the proprietary apple bumper case, you can feel a subtle lip between the rubber and the hard plastic that I could not feel on my original bumper. The rubber sections have little shavings of rubber still attached that didn't seem to get cut off before it was affixed to the hard plastic.
There is also an issue with the black to clear plastic connection on the inside of the bumper, what should be a crisp straight line looks as if a child got over zealous in their coloring book and decided the lines were meant to be colored over, resulting in areas where it looks like black paint was spilled out over onto the clear plastic.
I only paid a little over 6 dollars after shipping so considering the 1st party bumper runs in the neighborhood of 30 bucks I give this case 3 stars on its value. It is poorly made but makes a valiant effort to mimic the 1st party bumpers.
Pro: Very close to the proprietary Apple Bumper case, buttons and case feel good. Con: Poorly put together, but you get what you pay for.

The best bumper for iPhone 4Aug 16, 2011
By J. Komala
"avid shopper"
This bumper for iPhone4 is as goos as it looks in the picture.
What sold me on this bumper first is the tranparent sidewall that allows the beauty of iPhone 4 design to show through while the black rubbery material along both edges of the iPhone still protect and blunt impact.
The volume and power/sleep buttons are covered with metalic color buttons similar to the actual buttons that is very usable while the cutouts for the speaker mute button, headphone/headset jack and data port are big enough that connectors plug in easily without a problem. There are cutouts for the two speakers as well and sound goes through just fine.
This design is very well thought-out and it is more attractive than the all-rubber bumper that is available from Apple. The price is reasonable and I bought one from the seller in California so item arrived quicker.
I am buying another one.

Good product, some caveatsNov 28, 2011

I love the look of this bumper, this is what I wanted since first seeing the iPhone 4. It gives me the benefits of the bumper, but looks like nothing is on the phone at all. This phone stands alone in design, and I like to see it, but it's just so slippery!
Obviously, this is not the $30 Apple bumper, but a comparison is inevitable. After reading reviews of the fit of many 3rd party bumpers, and having used imperfect 3rd party cases for many phones in my life, including one other iPhone bumper that did not fit, I was a little cautious to buy one. The design of this bumper is basically the same as Apple's, plastic and rubber, but not as refined as to construction.
Mine fits perfectly, all buttons and gaps line up exactly as they should. As some other reviews have said, the joining of the center plastic to the outer rubber is not perfectly smooth, leaving a bit of a rough edge all the way around. I tried a little bit of careful filing to smooth that down, and it helped a little. Also, day-to-day usage has worn it down a little more, so for me this is not a problem, anymore. Or maybe I just got used to it. Now that it is less pronounced, to me it has become an edge that gives just a bit of grip, so the phone is less slippery.
There is one other noticeable difference in manufacturing quality. Apple's center plastic piece appears to be one smooth molded piece all the way around. This clear bumper feels as though there are seams at all 4 corners, it's almost sharp. This is in the plastic alone, nothing to do with the rubber parts. I tried filing/sanding the corners down a bit. It isn't too noticeable in day-to-day usage as I don't really touch those corners much, but when I do it is obvious.
I have the Verizon iPhone, and this bumper was not updated to accommodate the different mute switch location on this later version of the iPhone 4. I expected this, and purchased, anyway. It was quite simple to modify with a razor blade as this bumper's gap for the switch actually has 2 levels. That is, the top/outside of the gap is just big enough to fit the mute switch for both types of iPhones. But there is an extra lip of plastic that makes the gap smaller on the inside where it actually touches the phone. This second level of plastic is only about a third (about 1mm) of the depth of the bumper (3mm), and therefore fairly easy to cut through. I removed a portion of this lip and the mute switch now just fits and is completely usable.
Mine differs from the pictures slightly. There is a visible line down the center of the clear sides in the pictures, which is actually an indent in the plastic on the inside of the bumper. It is only visible because the plastic is clear. Mine has similar lines, but each only ΒΌ inch long near the corners, not down the entire side. Probably not a big deal, but it is a strange look. In a perfect world, I would have chosen no line/indent whatsoever.
