1This Battery is not as advertised and has horrible battery indicationJan 19, 2011

First, I would like to say to amazon. TAKE THE 3GS TAG OFF THIS ITEM! It is not a 3GS battery and the trickery in labeling it a 3g S because it is silver is ridiculous.

However, this battery will work with the iphone 3GS, but you have to be on 3.x.x firmware.

My 3GS was on 4.1 and the phone kept rebooting. I downgraded to 3.1.2 firmware and the phone now works, but I don't have the features of the 4.1 upgrade. Also, the percent of battery left fluctuates drastically. It will show 3% and then after 10 minutes of using the phone show 8%.

I am not happy with my purchase, and will be returning the battery as soon as I get another replacement battery!

4Reviews should be based on the quality of the battery and the kitOct 17, 2010

It is disappointing that so many reviewers have given this product 1 star because of the difficulty they had in taking their iPhone 3G apart (and putting it back together again). The review should be based on the quality of the battery and the kit, and not the problematic design that Steve Jobs built into his product.

The first time I swapped a battery out of an iPhone 3G I followed several Youtube instructional videos. Through my own incompetence, I cracked the case in my first attempt to open it. Once the new battery was placed, it took me four hours to figure out how to put it back together again. This being my wife's iPhone created its own set of problems. It now takes me 20 minutes to disassemble an iPhone 3G, replace the battery, and reassemble it to full functionality. Practice makes perfect.

The product itself works very well. The battery is functional and holds its charge like a new iPhone. It is far cheaper than sending away the phone to an Apple store for a battery change. My only quibble is the micro-Phillips screwdriver is not magnetic, and does not hold onto the tiny screws. This made it almost useless. I ended up using a magnetic micro-Phillips screwdriver from another kit. Five stars for the battery, four stars for the overall kit.

1NOT 3GS COMPATIBLEOct 07, 2010
By altered7th
The name on this item is misleading at the least, criminal at worst. This is not a 3GS compatible battery. The item name "... for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Silver)" can only be interpreted as an attempt at using the item's color as a sly way of selling people incompatible batteries.

3Inexpensive fix to failing Iphone 3G Batttery, BUTOct 01, 2009
By John D. Curry
If you can handle tiny Apple screws and minuscule ribbon cables then this is for you. Use a suction cup to pull the screen from the case (see you tube for examples of this procedure). Ribbon cable 3 which attached screen to main board is very tiny and you will need flat tweezers to reinstall it. Supplied instructions are not good enough to do this procedure and are printed on a tiny piece of paper. Other than those caveats, its working fine for me.

4Great battery, tricky installationFeb 27, 2010
By M. H. Smith
No issues with the battery, but the installation is VERY tricky. Search the web for iPhone 3G battery replacement for step-by-step instructions with larger pictures.

Things to watch out for:

Flexing the PCB will damage the trace connecting the GSM antenna to the board. I broke mine and the little inductor fell off. The inductor was cheap and didn't have pads to connect back to the board, so I used a solder blob to bridge the gap. The trace broke (and it's 5 mils wide) and I had to bridge that with a very small 30g wire.

Putting the connectors back on is also very tricky. You will likely need some optics to help you see where they connect.

I would not recommend this for the faint at heart. I was an engineer and had some trouble doing this, but was able to clean up my mess and get the phone working again (but only with access to a stereoscope and temp controlled rework station). It should last until Apple releases the next iPhone.

Be careful, make a fatal mistake and you will end up with an iPod Touch not a cel phone.
