4Simple and Nice Protective CaseMar 30, 2011
By Patient Leech
Just as a brief rant: People, please only write a review and rate the product if you HAVE the product and have used the product. Whether or not it was shipped on time or whatever has NOTHING to do with the product. If someone sent you the WRONG product, that should not effect your rating of THIS product. Save that for rating the seller. If I hadn't seen so many bad reviews on Amazon for this product, I probably would have ordered it online and saved a bit of money. [Expletive]. Anyway...

Pros:

-Doesn't add much bulk. In fact I think it adds just enough to make it more comfortable in your hands.
-protects the ports very well, while still allowing access to them.
-screen protector is a very nice addition.
-And the rubber bulges on the side actual make the buttons easier to feel. I like that a lot, actually. Before I was always stumbling about for the right buttons.

Cons:

-Doesn't have a clip for a belt.
-Could use a few rubber dots on the back to keep it from sliding when placed on its back.

Now, it's a very nice case. I've seen things on here about the top part not staying on very well. Not true. It stays on quite well. Takes a bit of force to get it off, in fact. Don't know about whether it will fit into a dock. Guy in Verizon said it wouldn't. I'm thinking of getting a dock for my Droid, in which case will probably just have to take off the back portion (which isn't much trouble). And I haven't dropped it yet, but the phone seems very secure and the case seems very durable. I will probably shop around for a good belt pouch that will fit it and I'll be all set. Oh, and I cannot comment on whether it will accommodate an extended battery. Hope this helps. Don't let so many negative reviews on here prevent you from getting this. :/

5practical and protectiveMar 08, 2011
By hope beverly
I really like this case. I'm not sure why one of the other reviewers has such trouble with fit, but I would suggest he should contact the company about it -- they seem to stand behind their products. I had a Verizon rubber case (the only case available when I bought my Droid), and the thing did its job too well -- there was so much friction because of the rubber that I couldn't put it in a pocket, or slide it into a purse area, etc. It was too sticky. But I still wanted that rubber cushioning, just not the sticky aspect. So this gives me both; it has the rubber energy-absorbing layer, but it's covered with a hard shell, so it slides easily into pockets and smaller spaces. Note that it won't go in the Motorola docking bay or the car GPS clip-thingy -- the case makes it too big for that, so you are trading against that, but I just couldn't go with NO protection for such an expensive phone! I did find a hip case for it (couldn't do that with the Verizon cover) at Target, and at home, I store it on a Clingo Universal Mobile Podium. The case fits the phone well, and was easy to put on, and relatively easy to take off when I need to do a hard reset ;-) . O, also the screen protector that comes with it is WONDERFUL. I had a Verizon version of that, and it made rainbow colors and wasn't easy to slide your finger over. Otterbox's is incredibly smooth and clear. I think you'll be happy with it.

5Best Case for Droid 2 GlobalMar 29, 2011
By Mars224
I have tried the cheap $2 cases and they broke after I removed the phone. I don't have any of the problems mentioned in the negative reviews. Honestly, I feel like these negative reviews are making things up. Don't let the negative reviews discourage you from getting the case! The front piece feels securely fastened and the back piece is also really well fastened. There is no movement of the phone inside the back piece because it is too large. Also making use of a rubber piece for the back piece is genius because it adds another level of protection. In general the phone feels secure in case it falls. The case does not add any more bulk than the cheap cases I have used in the past. The keyboard comes out rather smoothly and no friction was encountered. The only issue I notice is that 1/4 of the green led notification is covered by the front piece. However, I fixed the problem by taking a razer and cutting the the small plastic obstructing the view. Really that was not necessary but it was a small annoyance.

4Worth the priceApr 22, 2011
By David Ramos
The case does cost a good amount more than the $5 swap meet cases and it's worth the price. I've bought my share of cases for this phone from the swap meet products to the Verizon brand cases. Otterbox is by far the best.

The phones a slider which makes creating a case for it difficult. Most cases for the Droid 2 have 2 small hooks that break off very easily the Otterbox has three. Sure not a huge deal but to be fair there really isn't alot they can work with. It's a slider phone and it's pretty much the best they can do.

The front plate does pop off when it's dropped once in awhile but maybe 1 in 10. The case is well built, has a solid feel and has a rubber ring between each halves of the case to keep dust out, even has rubber plugs built into the case to protect the headphone jack and USB port. The rubber ring has a great feel and doesn't hinder the use of the lock or volume buttons at all.

Case doesn't add alot of bulk to the phone at all. For those of you with the extended battery you're going to have an issue but there's an easy solution. If you try and put the back plate of this case over the back plate of the extended battery it's not going to work. That extra millimeter it sticks up is going to prevent the case from latching on. So just take off the battery back plate, put on the Otterbox case back plate(since it will act as a battery back plate) and you're golden.

Great case, worth the money. Would definitely buy Otterbox again.

4As Good as it Gets With A Slide Out Keyboard....Dec 10, 2011
By Basil Rathbone "Basil"
OtterBox Motorola DROID 2 Commuter Series Case
This is by far the most I have been impressed by a case so far...as much as human being can be impressed by a cell phone case. They aren't the most electrifying subject, which I know because I work in wireless. People's eyes glaze over when you mention that a 20 dollar case is good idea for your $800 cell phone. Then they're livid when the screen breaks. If you want something to keep your phone safe, but don't want some giant holster thing that only military personel have an actual need for then try this case. There's also the problem that

The Good: Snaps on right away. Excellent fit and finish. As much protection as you can expect for a phone with a slide out keyboard.
Exposed ports (Micro usb and headphone/3.5) are protected while in your pockets. All external buttons are protected from dust and dirt but work perfectly.
Snaps on and off if you like to carry an extra battery like me. Does not interfere with slide action of keypad, nor impede the typing space if you've got big hands like me.
The included screen protector is better than you'd expect.
Otterbox has a good reputation for quality and I am speaking as both a owner and someone who works in wireless and has seen alot of bad cases for phones.

The Bad:
When new, Otterbox is slightly overpriced then again, very few brands touch their reputation for quality.
Otterbox, as a matter of company policy, does not support extended battery cases. Again, most companies don't either.
No integrated screen protection.
Added size in your pocket. Again this is a case, they all do that.
No crazy colors. (Not a negative for me.)

Conclusion: If you are not a holster user, but still want a decent level of protection, this not only is the best choice; its your only choice since you own a Droid 2. Unfortunately, accessory manufacturers are phasing it out. Keep in mind that the slide-out action keeps manufacturers from making the more hardcore, military-grade levels of protection.

If you have a Droid 2, or Global in my case, this really is your only choice if you keep your phone in your pocket. I have at least 4 other cases and none other immediately snapped on perfectly without some sort of complication due to lower manufacturing standards. They also wear out or snap at the connection point. I've tried the dollar cheapies, five doller ones and more pricy ones. Silicone doesn't do anything, (when it very thin as most phone cases are) in terms of protection so haven't tried those yet. I won't however, because I finally found a case that works.

The bezel (lid) case will not be rock solid but there is reason for that. You can wiggle it a little bit. I've had other cases that snapped on flush, so my guess is the designer omitted the clips on purpose. On other phones that had clips (on the side that touches the keypad) the clips either reduced the keyboard space or interfered with the slide out action. SO, being well-designed, this case left them out. The result : the slide action and keyboard work perfectly. I have large hands and was relieved to find my keyboard space unaffected.

All ports (except the mic, that would be bad) are covered from the dust and dirt demons but they work great.
The extended battery support would be very nice, but that's rare for any phone. Download a battery management app, or just keep bluetooth and gps OFF until you need them and your battery life WILL improve. Also battery life is a known flaw for the Droid 2 unfortunately.

The included screen protector isn't on the level of an invisi-shield or a skinomi, but it is defitnitely a step above your run of the mill five pack screen protector that are endemic to every electronic device known to man and Amazon. You can't get that quality without using a water-based applicant as in the ones mentioned above.

I mentioned earlier that this is as good as it gets for a person who keeps their phone in the pocket. It adds to the bulk only slightly but keep in mind that the Droid 2 is a well-built phone (mine has survived far worse-like hitting a wall at an accelerated speed- don't ask how I know this) and my phone is still factory perfect. There is a nice impact layer inside the back shield, and the higher quality plastic is a plus. Don't think that this is ever going to be tank armor for your phone. What is does do...WHEN (not if) you drop your phone it will keep it from falling flat (flush) with the screen which is a screen killer. The bezel cover (front part) will also increase the likliehood that your phone, if it does not fall flat, it will hit the cover instead of your phone.

Also, assuming you installed the screen protector, the trade-in value of your phone, will be much higher. I cannot tell you how many times people are shocked at the re-sale value of their phone. "Yes sir, I understand its an iPhone, but it also is missing chunks of the surrounding plastic, the screen is scratched, and apparently you sanded it with an extremely coarse grain belt sander."
That's an exaggeration obviously, but when I look at a phone in my work I have to sign a form assessing its value. Therefore, I won't lie if you treated your phone horribly. Companies notice stuff like lying. Also, its very hard to sell anything that doesn't look factory-fresh! It can be the difference between saving 40 dollars on your next upgrade or a few bucks. In essence, even if this case doesn't stop a bullet it more than carries its value by retaining your phone's value. Also, at the price Amazon is offering its even better.

I know the the one cent cheapie cases are tempting but you must resist them and get this instead.
