roll the diceNov 10, 2009

for everyone who is searching over and over again on amazon trying to find a headphone adapter for their HTC, etc phones, read this.
there are basically four options.
1+2. there is this adapter, and there is the one that is straight instead of right-angled. they are shipped interchangeably.
3. the HTC oem 3-1 adapter. this is the one with the 3 and 2.5mm, mini-USB, and power ports.
4. the HTC oem mic+headphone adapter. locally, my t-mobile store carries this one.
i own all of these.
3 is probably the best quality, but it's very large and bulky. that fact will probably mean you will stress it more often and it will not last, not to mention being a pain in the *** in the meantime. this one is good for the desk, but not for carrying around.
4 adds around 5 feet of cable to your headphones. a worse pain than option 3. you do get a working mic though.
this item, option 1+2, are the lightest weight, and smallest. the problem is that they are complete junk. unfortunately this is really the only reasonable option. so buy 2, and expect them to last somewhere between 0 and 90 days. i've owned 3: one lasted less than a day, one lasted 2 weeks, and another lasted 3 months, under what i'd term heavy use.

For headPHONES, not a headSETJul 03, 2009

"Squeek!"
This item is being sold as a stereo headset adapter, however it is not, it is merely a stereo headphone adapter. The distinction is subtle, a headset uses a TRRS (4 conductor) plug, but this adapter is only TRS (3 conductor). That means it will work for headphones, but it lacks the 4th conductor required to use a microphone.
The design of this adapter also does not work well with the HTC Mogul; the 90 degree angle of the plug causes it to stick out over the stylus. You have to unplug the adapter to insert or remove the stylus.

Doesn't workDec 12, 2008
By Ricardo J. Vaz The first time i insert the adaptor on the htc phone, it didn't work and when i try to take it out, it got broken in several pieces, the plastic is too weak, and even without the pastic, only with the wires, it didn't work.
Don't buy it.

works greatDec 16, 2009
By David Dee Use this for my G1 when I want to listen to internet streams, youtube or music from my phone, through my car's stereo system. The only negative, and its not the adapter's fault, is I can't charge the phone while listening to audio from it. And since the G1's battery life is poor, that can be a problem. There is a solution. There is an HTC 4-1 adapter that lets you charge and listen to music at the same time. But guess what? I still needed this adapter to get it to work! But I am pleased with the both items, even if it is clunky using two adapters together.
The adapter itself works great and is handy when connecting to an external speaker or stereo.

Fit is too tight; the first time I plugged it in, it became looseJan 09, 2009
By J. Shafa It lasted for a short time before breaking. The sound has completely stopped working on the right side. I will see how nice their customer service is when I try to get a new one to replace it.
