 Great protection but blocks access to screen notification barSep 08, 2011

Purchased the HTC Incredible Trident KRAKEN Case (Color: black) from Amazon:
PROS: Great protection...almost too much IMHO. Optional color selections. Quality materials, feels nice in your hand (soft-touch-non-slip coating) and case assembly is very easy. 3M premium PET built-in screen protector is high quality and you can use it over an existing screen protector. Optional coated polycarbonate camera lens protector. All materials are 100% RoHS compliant. I haven't dropped my phone yet, but I feel it could easily survive a 3-4' fall on hard concrete from any angle.
CONS: Case will make accessing your screen notification bar almost impossible. I have small hands and it takes at least 10 attempts to pull down the notification bar with my pinky finger. This is the number one reason I would avoid this case. The audio and power ports are very deep(8-10mm) which make plugging in a pain. In fact, Trident supplies a audio extender jack (see OTHER THOUGHTS) so you can use your standard audio jack. This makes for a very tall audio jack protruding out from the phone. Power and Audio port silicone covers might fail after repeated use. The case increases the size of the phone, however, the Incredible is a relatively small phone so you can still insert it into your front pant pocket. This is not really a con but I can't understand why the permanently attached dust filter is white...IMO...it should be black to match the phone.
SUGGESTIONS for Trident: 1) Understand how the phone is used. 2) Move the plastic edge away from the top of the screen so you can access notification bar with your finger. 3) Increase the audio port hole size so a standard jack can easily pass through. This would eliminate the need to supply an extension jack and reduce the jack height protruding from the case. 4) Plastic edges that surround the screen need to be angled from 60 deg to 45 deg so to allow for easier screen perimeter finger access. This would help horizontal finger scrolling to different screens and pulling down the notification bar.
OTHER THOUGHTS: After a week, I'm still struggling with pulling down the notification bar. It's hit or miss at best. Included audio extener jack is poor quality and disconnects with every bump. This makes Pandora pause because it thinks you've removed the audio jack. Thinking about drilling a larger Audio jack hole to allow my standard jack to work. Also, thinking about cutting off the power port cover because it gets in the way of my car phone holder and trying to pull it out every time to charge the phone is annoying.

Great sturdy case. Many reviewers complain about being unable to grab the notification bar to pull it down, but I found an app called "Dropdown Widget" which lets me pull down the bar by just tapping an icon on my homescreen. I also didn't have any trouble with using my headphones. Just depends on the size of your jack, but my $10 Maxell headset with remote fit in there just fine. Now if I can just find a pouch with beltloops that will fit the thing. This case is a bit bulky and now it won't fit in my jeans pocket. Overall, I love the case, and way cheaper than an Otterbox.

I was using an Otterbox....it's black....I can't ever find my phone!! So I bought this one thinking the yellow would make it easier to find...it does !!!!
The Pros:
The case is very masculine.
My phone looks so secure in this case, it looks indestructible.....I'll leave that testing to CR.
I can find my phone.
The Cons:
The case feels slippery in your hand, it doesn't feel 'grippy'.
The top part of the screen on my HTC Incredible is designed to be pulled down. The cover eliminates the use of that feature...I have small hands for a man and I can't make it happen.....if I use an iPad pen I can then get it to work. That to me is a major complaint.
But balancing the high visibility of the unit now, the encased safety.....until I find a better one, the pull down menu will remain unused.

The side silicon plug protecting the mini USB port, is robust and fits the hole well. A little rubber like raised bar is designed to assist in opening it. I have finger nails and tonight I couldn't get it open; I had to use a tiny screw driver.

This is a great product. I get a lot of compliments. It really fits in my hand well and is non-destructable. The rubber grip is great. I still have not been able to find a belt pouch with belt loops and a clip that will fit this item. That is the only thing that is frustrating to me; otherwise, 5 STARS!

I bought this cover for my husband and my son loved it so much I had to purchase him one also. I gave it four stars because the instructions on how to take it apart and put it on the phone are not clear.
