Poor performanceJul 26, 2010 Despite the claims, this device does not improve the signal much. I had installed it in an office area that gets 1-2 bars and frequently drops calls, so I wasn't expecting to always have 4 bars, but I don't get a much better signal with the device active. The device doesn't even stay active for long. It frequently turns on its red light and has to be powered off and on to reset it. I have followed the advice of the manufacturer and the antenna and booster are as far apart as possbile (the cable is stretched nearly straight) and I still get a red light every couple days. I don't think you should buy this device. I bought this device for my office which is a small area hoping for a better signal at my desk. It hasn't helped.
I have purchased a whole home booster from another company, and it has worked flawlessly. I no longer get dropped calls inside my house. I went from no signal to 4 bars inside. It cost me a lot more (around $900 with cabling and took a few hours to run cabling through my attic and install the outdoor antenna). If you want to get a great reliable signal consider choosing Powerful Signal in Utah. Don't choose this device.
Meh.Jul 23, 2010 I have a basement office near the external wall of my building. If I stick my phone above a duct, it'll get about one bar. Just enough to send/receive texts and at least know if someone is trying to call my phone. (I can't pick it up and talk, as then it moves out of the sweet spot)
I put the receiver end of this up where I usually stick my phone, ran the other end along some pipes and dropped it down right above my desk. I actually stick the transmitter end right on my desk, and leave my phone about 6 inches away. The signal vacillates between 1 bar, no bars, and "NO SIGNAL". This is technically an improvement over not using it, as I would never get any bars at my desk, but it still isn't enough to actually make a call or anything. The literature made it seem like as long as you had 1 bar, it would "boost" it to 2-3 bars, but it doesn't.
So I still can't talk on my phone, txt send/receive is actually a little more spotty, but now I don't ever go home for the night without my phone because I forgot I stuck it up in the ductwork...
Like I said, "Meh".
I told you soJul 03, 2010 I should have taken the poor reviews into better consideration. The unit worked great from one bar to 4 bars! Five minutes later I got searching for service. When I looked at the unit I notice the green light had changed to blinking red. Looking at the box I read " Note: If a red light appears during set up or anytime during use, move the desk antenna further from the zBoost base unit and/or move the phone away from the base unit or desk antenna." Extending the desk antenna the full length of the cord ~20 ft did not help. Moving the cell phone to the max range also did not help.
added 1 barJul 02, 2010 I have an at&t phone for work, and could not work from home because At&t sucks in chicago. I bought this product out of despiration. It added 1 bar to my signal which is just enogh that i no longer drop calls or break up. It gets the job done. had to play around with antenna a bit. If you are looking for full signal stregth, this might not get you there, but it was the right product at the right price for me. I give a good approval rating, and relie heavily on other users ratings
Does what it's supposed to do, and does it for a very affordable priceJun 30, 2010 I see a lot of negative reviews on here and I'm noticing a pattern. People expect this device to do things it wasn't designed to do. It performs its intended task quite well, but people are apparently confused about what that task is.
This product will only be of use for you if you get no signal or an unreliable signal in a spot where you want to use your phone, but there is a spot within 30 feet of you that does reliably get at least one bar. It picks up a weak signal and rebroadcasts that signal to the other end of the antenna. You must be within several feet of the end of the antenna or it will not work.
There are other products that boost and extend cell signals much better, but they're much more expensive. This one was perfect for my situation. I spend a lot of time at my desk, which is in the basement. I get a signal that goes from three bars to zero to three and so on. I don't get most calls, and when I do get them they get dropped within the first minute of the call. However, I get a reliable three-bar signal upstairs. Basically, the basement is a dead spot.
I installed this product in a window upstairs and ran the antenna down to my desk in the basement. Now, as long as I'm at my desk, I get a reliable four to five-bar signal. Problem solved. If I get too far away from the antenna and my desk, I run into the dropped call problem again.
The only thing that can give you a signal where there isn't one at all in the first place is a micro-cell tower, and that's a totally different technology. If you want your signal boosted throughout the house, you're going to have to fork over the cash for a full-on extender.
If you just need to get signal in a dead spot when there is an area nearby that gets a reliable signal, this inexpensive product is a lifesaver.
