 No more bars, but no dropped callsSep 09, 2010

I live in an area that is about equidistant between cell towers. My best signal strength in the house is 2 bars or less. I lost calls all the time, sometimes just because I pivoted while talking and placed my head between the phone and the tower. The lower level of the house is partially sub-grade and I can never rely on maintaining a connection.
This extender has solved all the above problems. I have a clear conversation now, but no increase in cell strength (still 2 bars), When I turned it on, the phone showed no bars and thought I was too close to the repeater, but reception was clear. Routine contacts have commented that my voice is not choppy as it was before. I can definitely recommend this product's signal boosting capacity.
INSTALLATION: Windows on 2 sides of the house showed the same cell strength. I chose one that was the easiest to string cable along the wall and placed the transmitter as close to mid-house as possible. I placed the antenna as high in the window as possible. Do clean the window before mounting the antenna. It took less than 10 minutes to unpack and install. The hardest part was unraveling the coaxial cable. Instructions are short and clear. The trouble shooting table consists mainly of being certain to have more than 8 feet between the antenna and the transmitter, otherwise they interfere with each other.

The unit is easy to setup. I purchased it in place of a YX-510 that was struck by lightning. Did not work at first and technical support solved the problem. Antenna needs to be placed correctly. Ours was mounted in our attic, not on a window. If it is not right side out and level, it will not work. The rest of the install was a breeze.
The unit just works. There is no feedback with lights like the older 510 unit. No flashing feedback saying it has signal or is working, just one green power light. I would like to see something confirming it was working...Just me I guess.
As I said it just works. Signal was boosted from 0 bars to 2 bars. When in a call it actually goes up to 3-4 bars. Excellent clarity. We live in a ranch with plaster walls, and it even gives us signal in the basement! My wife has T-Mobile and I have ATT. Both services work great and simultaneously.

Pros: Easy to set up. No vertical seperation requirements. increased signal strength for voice and data. Customer support is excellent. relatively small base. Grey color blends into background. quality workmanship/appears sturdy
Cons: signal degrades rapidly after about 5 ft. comes with a short length of cable. Coverage area is greatly overhyped.
Summary: I like the product and will keep it for my office. I sit about 30 ft from window in a cubicle maze. I was able to place the antenna in the window and put the base in my cube for great signal. Only real issue I have is that the device only has a range of about 5-6 feet before I lose 3G. Signal drops off completely after about 18ft which is about 972sf coverage area. However, the fabric covered partitions between the cubes erode the signal much quicker. Therefore coverage is hit or miss when I am on the other side of the partition wall. I called customer their support/technical support folks to validate the actual range and it was refreshing to here they were quite forthcoming with the true range of 15-20 ft. I think this is an ideal product for small open areas. Not so much for large areas or walled areas. I would increase the star rating if the device would provide more coverage and if the advertising was more factual about actual coverage area.

Really improves marginal signal for me and I'm not usually enthusiastic about tech solutions. I have to have good SMS and WAP signal to hear about and to receive tech work for my business. This device only works on 2.5 G (Edge, WAP, 900 MHz and 1800 MHz signals). Do not expect it to improve your 3G since it doesn't hit 3G frequencies (except maybe Verizon?).
I live in a rebar-reinforced masonry and concrete bottom floor on the opposite side of the building from the nearby tower. Before installing, I got NO SIGNAL throughout most of the 1500SF apt (except at some walls by windows, where I got 1-3 bars with some fluctuations, except at one relatively reliable window and at another flaky window - depends a lot on signal bounces and bends). Now I get 3+ bars of Edge throughout the apt with the exception that the incoming signal at that window is still a little flaky. The only thing keeping this from a 5-star rating is that it doesn't do 3G or enhance my 2nd phone's signal (that could easily be due to having a different tower location).

I live in a rural area and cell signal is hit or miss at home. Inconsistent in the same spot while not moving around. You know the aggravating routine, hold the phone up and move it around and hold it there at an uncomfortable position while you use it. This actually did help. 1 or 2 bars and rarely 3g to 3 and 4 bars and 3g most of the time. The antenna, as some stated, is kinda cheesy looking and feeling but that doesn't effect operation. Put it behind a curtain and you'll never notice it. You have to remember this does not generate a signal. It only receives and amplifies an existing signal. If you have no signal to begin with you still won't have one if you buy this. Don't expect or ask it to do what it wasn't designed to do. A good deal for the price. Includes everything you need.
